Most of the time, wedding toasts (it doesn’t matter who delivers it), are what liven weddings up. Though the atmosphere even before the toast is usually already light and happy, the toast makes it even happier… most of the time. Yes. There are cases wherein these supposedly funny wedding toasts end up destroying the whole event. To avoid these types of toasts, one must learn to set boundaries and to follow certain rules. Funny wedding toasts, however funny they are, must be anchored to a central theme – a certain message that one wants to convey to the newlyweds. It is often the best choice to use nostalgia in toasts. Communicate with the people involved in your speech and ask them to remember whatever event you’d like to talk about. Do not do or say anything that’ll provoke them to respond in a negative manner as this will, obviously, ruin the couple’s night (or day). As much as possible, don’t reveal things that are under the “fainting” genre.
Next, one must learn to be very confident. Once everyone’s attention is on you, you can’t just sit down and not say a thing. That’ll be very unnerving to the guests and they might develop an irritation towards you. You must understand how great the feeling of delivering a speech is. You must savor the moment. You must not be intimidated.
